Research on jellyfish has necessarily increased in the new millennium due to greater contact with humans. The jellyfish are once considered as a menace by the fishermen folk but has recently attracted the attention of sea food exporters. Since this kind of work is not been carried out so far in Tranquebar, Southeast coast of India and considering all the above facts the present study was undertaken to have an inventory list of available jellyfish in Tranquebar and Kottucherry. The present study was carryout in the ecological parameters like rainfall, temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity and pH of both Tranquebar and Kottucherry. Population density of jellyfish and to find out the species diversity, richness, evenness in the both the stations and to compare the outcome of the results. Cyanea Capillata, Crambionella stuhlamanni, Chrysaora quinquecirrha and Acromitus flagellates were recorded in the present study. Cyanea capillata species showed highest population density during Jan. 2017ââ?¬â?? Mar. 2017. Species diversity index (Hââ?¬â?¢) varied from 1.50 to 1.92. Higher species richness 0.69 was observed during postmonsoon and minimum richness 1.44 was observed during monsoon. Species evenness index (Jââ?¬â?¢) varied from 0.94 to 0.98 in Station 1.
